Rachel Harris of WEDO reports from Rio + 2006/21/12 Marhy Glenney
From A Woman's Point of View | Listen to this entire show:
Rachel Harris of the Women's Environmental Organization (WEDO) reports from Rio+20 conference in Brazil. She expressed her concerns with some of the issues in the working documents (arrived at in secret in closed meetings). She was particularly upset with the lack of mention of women 's reproductive rights being necessary for sustainability and the lack of indigenous concerns again over sustainability. Rachel felt the concerns and the solutions for the environment were being "corporately" driven. WEDO was founded 20 years ago for the purpose of assuring that women's voices and interests would be included in world environmental meetings. Rachel also discussed the People's Summit which is being held in conjunction with the Rio+20. She particularly talked about the women's march.
