During today’s hearing into the phone hacking scandal in the UK, a protester hit Rupert Murdoch in the face with a fake pie, presumably made of shaving cream.

A man in a plaid shirt ran toward Rupert Murdoch before being struck by his wife, Wendi Deng. He was detained by police.

On Twitter, the man was identified as activist and comedian Jonnie Marbles, who is associated with the UK Uncut movement.

After a brief recess, the testimony of James and Rupert Murdoch resumed in a courtroom cleared of the public and journalists. Murdoch senior had removed his jacket.

Later in the hearings, Ex-News International official Rebekah Brooks said she's never knowingly sanctioned a payoff to a police officer.

Brooks apologized to lawmakers for the scandal involving intercepted telephone messages. She was the editor of the News of the World during the time that a murdered teenager's phone was hacked in search of material for news stories.
