Santa takes on Wal-Mart labor issues: VIDEO
Groups from across the country protested Wal-Mart over the weekend as a show of solidarity with striking workers. Activists from the Tampa Bay area took their action to Pinellas Park on Friday at one of the big box retailer’s busiest stores. One man, Tyler Mitchell dressed as Santa Clause and stood in front of the store’s main entrance asking shoppers to stand in solidarity with Wal-Mart employees, but was quickly asked to leave the property.
Mitchell joined a larger protesting on the sidewalk in front of the Wal-Mart store on U.S. 19 in Pinellas Park. As he was walking through the parking lot a passing motorist told him to get a job. At a Wal-Mart store in Lithonia, Georgia a suspected shoplifter was killed after being confronted with two Wal-Mart employees and a security guard on Black Friday.
Meanwhile, today is Cyber Monday. The term for the Monday following Thanksgiving was coined by online retailers in 2005 because it is historically the busiest online shopping day of the year. Sales are expected to reach about $1.5 billion dollars today.
