Back in the summer of 2001, a man named Jim Gordon set out to build a wind farm off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. The idea of creating a privately funded, clean energy source for the energy starved New England region seemed to be a good idea.

Instead, as the authors of a new book on this saga write, all hell broke loose.

As depicted by authors Wendy Williams and Robert Whitcomb in the new book, “Cape Wind: Money, Celebrity, Class, Politics, and the Battle for our Energy Future on Nantucket Sound”, Gordon had unwittingly challenged the priviledge, power and assumptions of some of America’s richest and most politically connected people , who would fight him tooth and nail now matter what the cost, no matter if it made any sense.

WMNF spoke with Wendy Williams over the weekend. We asked her if this controversay was as basic as it seems: Clean , renewable energy vs. critics who didn’t like the site of wind mills off the coast of Cape Cod? (roll tape#1 o.q.”relatively short order”)

That’s Wendy Williams..She is the co-author of the new book, “Cape Wind: Money, Celebrity, Class, Politics and the Battle for Our Energy Future on Nantucket Sound”. She spoke to us from Cape Cod over the weekend.
