Sierra Leone "Rainbo Center" founder Amie Kandeh discusses her life and work
Amie Kandeh is founder of the International Rescue Committee's (IRC) Rainbo Center which helps women and girls suffering from abuse and violence. Her film Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide airs October 1st and 2nd on the PBS series Independent Lens (9p EST).
The 4 hour documentary is based on the widely acclaimed book of the same name by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Kandeh, a domestic abuse survivor herself, was instrumental in getting Sierra Leone's Gender Acts passed in 2007 which gives legal protection to victims of abuse.comments powered by Disqus
