Welcome to Radioactivity. I'm Rob Lorei. Coming up today-- it's time for year end awards to be announced and the group Media Matters announced that conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh is being honored this week--- we'll talk about that later, plus we'll hear Bill Moyer's commentary on the Sandy Hook massacre. We'll open the phone lines later- but first--- The Florida Public Service Commission has approved a 350 million dollar rate increase for Florida Power and Light....We're joined now by incoming state Representative Dwight Dudley from St. Petersburg.
Earlier this week Dudley issued a press release saying: "The Public Service Commission reached a settlement agreement with Florida Power & Light on Thursday that will result in rate increases of $350 million over the next four years. This settlement marks the first time that such a decision has been made without consent from the Office of Public Counsel, which argued that the deal was not in the public interest. The PSC circumvented the public counsel when they entered into an agreement with the Florida Industrial Power Users Group, the Federal Executive Agencies and the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association—a group of commercial users that represents less than one percent of FPL’s 4.6 million customers. Representative Dwight Dudley (D-St.Petersburg) expressed shock and dismay over the decision." Here to talk about it is Rep. Dudley.
