WMNF Drive-Time News Friday | Listen to this entire show:
Friday afternoon at the United Nations in New York, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas asked the UN to admit Palestine as a full member state.
The US has promised to veto Palestinian statehood in the UN Security Council. Despite US-led pressure on Palestine to abandon their bid, Abbas said the application should be sent immediately to the Security Council and the General Assembly.
Meanwhile, in Palestine, thousands rallied in support. In parts of the occupied West Bank, Israeli settlers fired weapons and burned and uprooted trees. A Palestinian man was shot in the neck and killed in a clash with Israeli soldiers and settlers near the village of Qusra.
