Time to Play… “Steel Magnolias”

We have some very good theater in our area. One of my favorite plays – and subsequently movie – “Steel Magnolias” is opening at American Stage Friday, May 23 and runs through June 15. I dare you not to laugh and cry in the beauty shop with these ladies. This production of the classic will feature an all African American cast. PERRI GAFFNEY, who pays Ouiser, will talk about the production as well as her upcoming performance (in June) of her play and book, “The Resurrection of Alice” at Studio 620.

Eating Wildly …from the Urban Wilderness

Sometimes to be most human, you have to forage. Eating Wildly: Foraging for Life, Love and the Perfect Meal by AVA CHIN illustrates why we all need to start foraging. Would you believe your beloved grandmother who just died can come here as a mulberry? Ava Chin will discuss this as she talks about finding the world in a weed. Not only does she forage for mushrooms and other wild edibles, she forages through her past to unearth her true self. And she intersperses recipes for utilizing her wild finds – I tried a modified version of her award winning “Wild Green Pie” – and yum! yum! http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/author/ava-chin/
