Next Thursday, Tampa City Council will take its first vote on temporary rules for Augustâ€™s Republican National Convention. Many types of weapons would be banned inside the proposed Event Zone, which was originally called a Clean Zone. But that restriction would not apply to people with concealed weapons permits because of a Florida law prohibiting local municipalities from placing such limits. Today City Council member Lisa Montelione proposed sending a letter to the Governor, Attorney General and Legislators asking them to put aside the law and let Tampa restrict those weapons during the convention.
