Tampa Police: NFL player commits suicide near Middleton HS listen07/30/12 Seán Kinane

Tampa Police say they are investigating an apparent suicide by an NFL player in front of Middelton High School this morning. Police say they found the body of O. J. Murdock inside his car with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police spokesperson Andrea Davis says Murdock was in critical condition and transported to Tampa General Hospital. But he died at 10:43 a.m.
“At about 8:30 this morning officers discovered the victim’s body in a car, in his car in front of Middleton High School. It appears that he has a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. We are still investigating. Of course we believe it’s an attempted suicide however we do have to fully investigate it just to be sure. We do have information that he’s a Tennessee Titan football player. We are investigation whether it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound but at this point it appears to be.”
“And you say the body, was he alive when you found him?”
“Yes, he was alive and he was transported in critical condition.”
The NFL.com website says Orenthal James Murdock was a wide receiver with the Tennessee Titans, but he did not play last year, the year he was drafted out of Fort Hays State.
