TBT Reporter Uncovers Child Abuse in Some of Florida's Religious Group Homes and Boot Camps
Good morning, welcome to Radioactivity. Iâm Rob Lorei. Coming up weâll talk with the Tampa Bay Times reporter who just wrote a three part series on extreme physical and sexual abuse at 30 religious group homes around the state. The stories are gripping in their detailâ¦. And some of the descriptions may not be suitable for young childrenâ¦..
But first two listener comments about yesterdayâs program. Yesterday we had open phones and spent most of the time talking about the electiuns⦠hereâs what two listeners had to say:
Tomorrow and Friday on Radioactivity weâll be giving away to candidates free air time. The airwaves belong to the public and many in our audience think the cost of campaigns is too expensive- and the pursuit of campaign dollars from big monied interests is a threat to our democracy. So- to get the word out about candidates who are on the ballot November 6th- we are offering free air time.
If you are a candidate for office and you are running for office November 6th â and your name will appear on a ballot in the WMNF coverage area- including Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, Sarasota and Manatee Counties- you are welcome to use this offer of free air time. All you have to do is call 813 238-8001 x115- which is the regular WMNF comment line and record up to a two minute message. The message you leave is up to you. We do not discriminate based on content or political party. This is open to all candidates from President to legislature, to county and local offices.
We suggest the message include your name, the office you are running for, your party affiliation and why you are the best person for the job. You have up to two minutes. You should close the message by again reminding listeners who you are and which office you are running for.
This offer is open on a first come, first serve basis. Everyone who is on the ballot November 6th is welcome to take us up on this offer. Members of all political parties can take part. We ask that the candidate themselves record the message. Messages that last more than two minutes will be edited for length. The number to call is 813 238 8001 x115. Weâll begin accepting candidateâs messages right now and will play them back tomorrow and Friday morning between 10 and 11 AM. Again the number to call to record your message- if you are a candidate is 813-238-8001 x115.
