link textlink textlink textThe Florida Solar Energy Center in Cocoa Florida has an Energy Whiz Olympics for students the first week of May each year and it’s all about clean energy and creative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) students. Among many other events on Saturday May 4 there will be an Electrathon Race. Tampa Bay has an electrathon group of tech students from different schools that design small electric vehicles and will be participating in the FSEC race. Joining our show was Ken Fiallos an electrical engineer with the Hillsborough County School System (one of the founders of Electrathon of Tampa Bay), Desi Saludes a physics teacher with Hillsborough Community College, two students attending HCC, Justin & Brady, and a student from Brandon High School, Nicodemus. Desi started the conversation with some basic definitions about energy and power, then the conversation focused on all that’s involved with Light Electric Vehicles and why they are so important as far as saving energy. www.fsec.ucf.edu , www.electrathonoftampabay.org

Justin and Nicodemus (me) are the ones at HCC. Brady goes to Tampa Bay Tech, not Brandon High School.
