Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was wheeled into a defendant's cage on a hospital gurney at the start of his trial today. He is charged with corruption and ordering the killing of protesters during the uprising that ousted him. But he denied all charges.

After short sessions, the judge adjourned the trial until August 15, ordering him held at a military hospital near Cairo and overseen by an oncologist. That is one of the strongest indications yet that the 83-year-old Mubarak has cancer after months of unconfirmed reports.

Tomorrow the court will continue hearing the case of his co-defendants, former interior minister Habib el-Adly, and six top security officials.
