Our topic today was backyard gardening, with Debbie, Rob & I taking calls on winter gardening questions. We received some informative calls from listeners on making and using worm and compost ‘teas;’ an offer of horse compost; and some great gardening questions. Winter is the best season to grow vegetables here in west central Florida. Now, depending on how cold it gets, we can grow many vegetables without the summer insects and wet conditions that make growing sometimes nearly impossible. Of course time of planting, variety choices, soil conditions and irrigation are all very important for success. There’s a wealth of information through the IFAS (University of Florida’s Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences) website on Backyard Vegetable Gardens
