Activists from the Uhuru are demanding that St. Pete Police officers remove themselves from black communities. During a protest in front of the police station today, nine people spoke out against the agency for what they call terrorizing black neighborhoods.

“The street crimes unit is a special unit of the police department that act as armed thugs in the African community.”

African solidarity committee to host international conference in St. Petersburg listen

People from all over the country will be gathering in St. Petersburg next week for the African People’s Solidarity Committee’s international conference. Groups from all over the world were invited. Penny Hess who chairs the group said some 100 people will brainstorm ideas on how non-minority groups can stand in solidarity with oppressed communities in Africa.

HART buses will be mobile tributes to Rosa Parks listen

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) is installing small brass plaques commemorating Rosa Parks in all of their buses. Transit officials showed them off today at the Yukon transfer center in Tampa's Sulphur Springs neighborhood. The move comes more than fifty years after the civil rights activist was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger.
