The National Weather Service Tampa Bay reported strong thunderstorms in Pasco, Hernando and Hillsborough counties today with gusty winds and even public sightings of a funnel cloud near Thonotosassa. Pasco is under a flood warning.

Cities on coastlines face unique challenges including flooding enhanced by rising sea levels. At the Bayfront Hilton in St. Petersburg this week people attending the 2012 Coastal Cities Summit warned about the consequences ignoring the threats to towns along the coast.

Hillsborough County Commissioners are still trying to get to the bottom of how county money was spent on the opulent new Brandon Community Advantage Center called the Regent. Today, Commissioners heard from the director of county audits for the Clerk of Courts, Dan Pohto. But a county audit of the lavish center didn’t answer many questions commissioners, like Victor Crist, had.
