Update: 29 October 2012 - The Supreme Court will not hear arguments in this case.

Today, the United States Supreme Court will decide whether to hear arguments in a case against five people from the Holy Land Foundation jailed for giving humanitarian aid to a group alleged to have ties to terrorism. Yesterday a small contingent of local activists waved signs on a street corner near USF Tampa to protest the conviction of the Holy Land Five.

Peace activists nationwide are speaking out Monday against what they see as FBI oppression against protesters. In downtown Tampa, ten people protested anti-terrorism tactics and legislation in front of the Sam Gibbons Federal Courthouse. Congress has passed a $662 billion defense bill. The National Defense Authorization Act could expand indefinite detention under the U.S. government. One provision would authorize the military to jail people it considers terrorism suspects anywhere in the world without charge or trial.
