Two members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, are traveling the state this week asking families not to go fishing for Father’s Day. Standing just feet from St. Petersburg’s Pier, one dressed as a fish and the other passed out flyers outlining why fishing hurts fish.

The Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus opened its multi-day run at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in downtown Tampa last night. But around 30 protesters gathered to voice discontent with the way animals are treated by the circus.

A new ordinance is coming before the Hillsborough County Commission that would make it illegal to chain up dogs outside for long periods of time. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says they'll look into complaints by PETA about how animals are treated at University of Utah research facilities.
An operative for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals spent eight months working undercover in the Utah labs and documented harmful conditions and neglected animals.
University of Utah officials say they will also investigate PETA’s allegations but they stress their researchers have always met animal care standards.

The animal rights activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), today wrote a letter to Friendship Trail Bridge Chair Frank Miller. The group says they will help pay for the restoration of the now closed off bridge, if officials agree to ban fishing off of it.
