Tampa Electric Co., which has already announced plans to raise basic electric rates and pass on higher fuel costs to customers next year, announced today increased fees on some services as well as fees for new services.
Twice this year, TECO announced a basic rate hike of 22 percent and a 9 percent increase in fuel costs that, if approved by state regulators, will take effect next spring.
Today TECO announced an increase in initial service connections to new homes from $38 to $75.

On Friday, St. Petersburg-based Progress Energy Florida is expected to ask state regulators to be allowed to increase power bills to make up for rising costs for oil and coal. Progress Energy is also paying more for electricity it buys from other utilities.
C.J. Drake is a spokesman for Progress Energy.
The Energy Department says power plants are paying 54 percent more for fuel oil, 33 percent more for natural gas and 6 percent more for coal, on a national level.
