The day after another testy debate with primary opponent Jeff Greene, Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Kendrick Meek was back on the campaign trail. Today’s leg of the ten-day trip took U.S. Rep. Meek through Tampa Bay. Much of the contest between Meek and billionaire newcomer Greene has consisted of character attacks. The Hillsborough County Commission’s District 3 seat is one of five commission seats up for election this year, and one of two that’ll be on the ballot in next month’s primary. The three Democrats in that race were among fourteen commission hopefuls to field questions at a Tiger Bay Club of Tampa event today.

Tuesday's primary election drew the lowest statewide voter turnout for a primary in at least 50 years, and perhaps the lowest ever.
In Hillsborough County, a paltry 4 percent showed up at the polls. There were also problems with returns coming in on time.
In congressional races, attorney and military veteran Bill Mitchell won a close race against John Dicks in the Democratic District 9 race, winning by just 177 votes. Third place finisher Anita DePalma got 28 percent of the vote.

New Polls released today on the GOP side show the race for in Florida is literally too close to call. A Quinnipiac poll has John McCain up by a point over Mitt Romney, 33 to 32 percent.
But another poll released this afternoon by a small polling organization out of North Carolina, Public Policy Polling, has Mitt Romney up by 7 points on the eve of the race.
Tom Jensen is the communications director for Public Policy Polling. He says voters are starting to choose Romney in big numbers....
