The Tampa Bay area is home to hundreds of refugees – people who were not safe in their home countries and are trying for a new life here.

This weekend is World Refugee Day. As the name implies, it's a day to recognize people who seek refuge when they’ve been forced to leave their homes because of violence or persecution. There will be events in Tampa Bay tomorrow to celebrate World Refugee Day.

Today is United Nations World Refugee Day 2008. WMNF reports from two celebrations of refugees at the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus.

USF’s African Students Association (ASA) was one of the student groups that organized a session in the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza around lunchtime.
