Recently teacher’s have been under fire for their allegedly generous salaries, benefits, and tenure. But since Senate Bill 736 cut teacher pay and tenure this spring, teachers are looking for ways to protect their positions. The Hillsborough Classroom Teacher’s Association continued contract negotiations with the School Board Thursday morning.

On today’s Last Call we spoke with teachers who were attending one of several rallies that took place in Pinellas County on Friday afternoon. They’re demanding an end to the defunding and dismantling of public education as well as the scapegoating of teachers that’s going on in Florida and across the US.
Florida ranked 37th in average teacher pay for the last school year and is expected to plummet to No. 47 in the nation according to a new report from the National Education Association.
