The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a secretive trade deal being negotiated between the U.S. and several Asian countries. On Wednesday, about a dozen local citizens gathered in front of the Tampa Bay Times’ office in Downtown St. Petersburg to protest the TPP.

U.S. Representative Kathy Castor returned from her first visit to Cuba this weekend with a new-found confidence in the island nation’s shift toward human rights. The Tampa Bay area Democrat spent three days in Cuba with a packed itinerary that left her convinced lifting the long-standing trade embargo is the right thing to do.

Tampa area member of Congress Kathy Castor has come out in support of lifting the longstanding trade embargo with Cuba. In addition, Castor told WMNF Monday she plans to travel to Cuba to talk to their foreign ministry about issues that affect Florida.

Bus loads of people were transported from a terminal to the event where ship containers were placed in a near circle. The first flight to Cuba from Tampa in 50 years will take place Thursday. Interested travelers gathered at the Cuban American Club in Ybor City Tuesday night to celebrate and get information from service providers about upcoming flights.

A “free-trade” deal has been negotiated between the United States and Colombia, but it awaits Congressional approval. Last month, Democrats in Congress said they would indefinitely delay a vote on ratification.
