We listen to a speech by esteemed American History Professor and author Howard Zinn, whose best-selling and controversial book A People's History of the United States looks at American History people of the common people and marginalized groups. Zinn was a combat veteran in WWII, his experiences later shaped his stance aganist the wars in both Vietnam and Iraq. In this 2006 speech he gave in Austin Texas, he talks at length about war and peace.

The White House announced Thursday that three Americans and an Italian were killed in U.S. counterterrorism actions in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan; in a brief statement President Barack Obama says he takes "full responsibility" for one operation that he says inadvertently killed an American hostage, Warren Weinstein, and an Italian hostage, Giovanni Lo Porto, held by al-Qaida.

The president did not take questions.

Some area students are holding an anti-war teach-in at the University of South Florida this week. The Books Not Bombs teach-in on Wednesday is focused on ties between USF and the U.S. military. Tampa Peace activists opposed to more war in southwest Asia have demonstrated outside MacDill Air Force Base several times in the last few months as the U.S. escalated its wars in Iraq and Syria; but Friday there will be a new location for their anti-war protest: a Raytheon plant in Largo.

It begins at 4:00 p.m. at the corner of Bryan Dairy Road and Belcher Road and is being organized by St. Pete For Peace.

A plan by the Pinellas County School District to acquire assault rifles for campus police is coming under fire from the black community.

Friday morning the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement held a press conference in front of the Pinellas County School Board building to criticize further weaponizing schools.

The Pentagon says U.S. warplanes have made three more airstrikes against Islamic State targets near the Mosul Dam, including a machine gun position that was firing on Iraqi forces.

Hundreds of people from the Muslim community and their supporters crowded the corner of The Fowler Avenue and 56th St.

Mohammad Joseph Salamaeh was one of the first to arrive to the large protest near USF Tampa. The group waved Palestinian flags and held signs reading, “Palestine Under Attack” and “You don’t need to be Palestinian to stand with Palestinians.” Another sign said, “Stand with Israel with a slash through Israel and the Star of David.
