Trainer of "The Artist" Dog on Talking Animals

My guest on "Talking Animals" Feb. 15 will be OMAR VON MULLER, trainer of UGGIE the Jack Russel terrier who stars in the Oscar-nominated film "The Artist."
As the story goes, Von Muller adopted Uggie, saving him from being sent back to the pound--after the first two families who'd adopted the dog found him too wild to keep-- launching Uggie's career with a touring dog talent show (he can ride a skateboard), then appearing in commercials before starting to work in film.
Uggie's appeared in such movies as "Mr. Fix It," "Water For Elephants," and "The Artist," in which many feel he stole the movie from the human actors.
In fact, an editor at Movieline magazine launched a Facebook campaign, "Consider Uggie," hoping to generate greater recognition for the dog's performance in "The Artist"--and an Oscar nomination.
Uggie didn't end up with that nomination, but has picked up other awards, including one at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, a recent Pawscar for "Best Scene Stealer"--indeed, he upstaged his "Artist" co-stars at the Golden Globes, playing dead onstage as they accepted the Globe for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.
Omar Von Muller will speak with us live on "Talking Animals" Feb. 15 at 11am ET, and listeners are invited to participate in the conversation by calling (813-239-9663) or e-mailing (DJ@wmnf.org).
