Every Sunday night, from 11pm to 1am, join Amanda as we discover 2 hours of unusual, underplayed, underground music on Underground Mountain. We’ll hear underplayed artists of the past, and daring artists of today – from around the world, to right in our own backyard. This is music you may have not heard yet, but may soon be your favorite.

Many, many thanks to all who donated to Underground Mountain! We are still a little short on our goal. Donate through the tip jar to keep this show on the air & scroll down to see all the gifts we still have available if you would like a thank you gift!

Album Features

Every so often, a truly amazing and original album is released…only for it to be almost forgotten. From Oxbow’s experimental 1995 “Let Me Be a Woman”, to Alex Chilton’s lo-fi 1979 “Like Flies on Sherbet” (supposedly the worst album ever made, but was actually way ahead of its time!), our album features on Underground Mountain search far and wide for the albums that were inventive, a little weird, but always beautiful. Discover those rare gems that didn’t get the credit they deserved, and gain a new musical perspective.

Just as important are albums from the current underground artists of today! These are the creators that are paving the way for new musical ideas, making incredible music that more people need to hear. We feature new albums that are noteworthy and different, from daring artists making music right now.

Punk Sunday

Every first Sunday of the month on Underground Mountain, we put on our ripped Levi’s and Doc Marten’s, hop on the anti-establishment bus, and head bang to nothing but 2 hours of punk music in its purest form. Expect a heavy dose of classic 70s/80s trailblazers, with a mix of modern-day musicians and artists keeping punk alive and strong!

New Haul

There’s no good music anymore.” WRONG! On Underground Mountain, every last Sunday of the month, it’s the New Haul! We’ll hear two hours of the best new music from underground artists, released during that month. Get caught up with new albums and songs, and maybe discover a new favorite artist.

Who’s this “Amanda” character?

Hi! I’m Amanda, the host of Underground Mountain. I’ve loved WMNF and its incredible programming since I was a teenager growing up right here in Tampa. When I began programming Underground Mountain here at the station, playing unconventional and underground music went from “interest” to “fervent passion”. I believe it is so important that more and more people hear music from underplayed and unusual artists, from the past and present. When we step out of our musical comfort zones, we open the door to a whole new way of thinking. These are the artists that challenge and inspire us, that speak to us in a way that we don’t always get to hear. They also make me occasionally dance like a crazy person while I’m in the studio.

Amanda Doyle  amanda@wmnf.org

Amanda began her experiences with WMNF when she became an avid daily listener in her teenage years. It wasn't until January of 2017 that she became a regular assistant to Stuart Mellish on his Thursday "It's the Music!" program, and became more involved with the family of volunteers at WMNF. She has lived in Tampa her whole life and has a strong passion for both the community that make Tampa Bay special, and the importance of bringing talented underplayed artists to a larger audience. She is excited to share these voices in her new show "Underground Mountain".
