The U.S. Senate voted last night to approve a measure on the interrogations and trials of terrorism suspect. County Mayor Proposal will be on 2008 ballot

The Tampa Tribune reported today that Hillsborough County voters WILL get to vote on a County Mayor form of government – in 2008.

Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Buddy Johnson made that declaration yesterday, after confirming the group behind the effort had enough valid signatures. He was to announce today whether a 2nd measure would also make it on the 2008 ballot.

Tampa City Council rebukes Mayor to get to Budget cut by Mitch E. Perry

The Tampa City Council rebuked Mayor Pam Iorio last night on how to get at their $725 million dollar budget, as they re-affirmed their decision 2 weeks ago to approve the city’s first property tax cut in 20 years.

But instead of cutting funds to non-profit organizations, as the Mayor had suggested would be the best way to deal with the budget, the Council voted to raid part of the city’s emergency reserve fund.

New Study says WalMart has declared war on Organic Farmers by Mitch E. Perry

A new report by the Cornucopia Institute accuses WalMart of cheapening the value of the organic label by sourcing products from giant factory-farms and 3rd world nations, like China.

Mark Kastel is the Senior Farm Policy Analyst with the Cornucopia Institute, based in Wisconsin. He says since Walmart announced that they would begin selling organic products, his group has been contacted by people wanting to know if this was a good thing or bad thing for the organic food industry.
