The Press Conference By USF Officials Outlining Plans To Seek A State Court's Approval To Fire Controversial Engineering Professor Dr. Sami Al-Arian. During this segment we heard from USF president Dr. Judy Genshaft, south Florida attorney Bruce Rogow, USF labor attorney Tom Gonzalez, USF faculty advisor Greg Paveeza, and USF faculty union president Dr. Roy Weatherford. Al-Arian is a tenured faculty member who's appearance on the FOX network several days after 9/11 caused the University to receive hate mail and death threats. USF also reports a negative impact on fundraising. Al-Arian is an outspoken advocate of freedom for Palestinians and has made controversial statements in the past about Israel. He also has been tied to terrorism through articles in the Tampa Tribune and by FOX talk show hosts. Al-Arian is being investigated by the federal government but has never been charged with a crime.
