LABOR ACTTIVISTS DISCUSS THE EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT
Today, June 19th, local workers, labor and community leaders, will gather to call for support of the Employee Free Choice Act -- legislation that would make it more difficult for employers to thwart workersâ efforts to form unions to bargain for better wages and benefits. Local labor and community leaders and workers will gather for a rally at Verizon Wireless, located at 6550 W. Hillsborough Avenue, Tampa.
Approved by the House in March and scheduled for debate in the Senate on Monday, the Employee Free Choice Act would give working people back their freedom to form and join unions by stiffening penalties on employers that violate the law.
We're joined now by Cheryl Shroeder who is executive director of the West Central Florida Federation of Labor, Mary Buffard and Patti Wilkins with IBEW Local 824 and Tim Lalonde, the apprenticeship Co-ordinator with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 925.
