John Edwards to campaign in Tampa Friday night
A new poll of the Democratic candidates in Florida shows the same pattern that has been consistent over the last year - Hilary Clinton continues to have a strong lead, 18% points ahead of Barack Obama. Al Gore, who may not be a candidate at all, attracts 13% support, and John Edwards comes in 4th, at 11%.
That Quinnipiac poll mirrors several national polls, that shows the former Vice Presidential candidate from North Carolina struggling…However, in the key primary states like Iowa and South Carolina, Edwards is doing very well.
John Russell is a former Congressional candidate in Florida’s District 5, and a strong supporter of Edwards (roll tape#1 o.q.”extremely early in the campaign”)
Edwards will be appearing in Tampa Friday night, at Lowry Park Zoo at 7PM. It will be a fundraiser, but like Barack Obama’s appearance in Ybor City in April, a fundraiser for the common man – donations are only $15. Again, John Edwards supporter John Russell (roll tape#2 o.q.” being about”)
Edwards has championed the underclass in his presidential campaign. And it’s that support that has led to several media reports highlighting his wealth, and contrasting it with his message to the people.
Just last Friday the NY Times reported on the nonprofit organization he created in 2005 – the Center for Promise and Opportunity , whose stated mission is fighting poverty.
But the Times reported that, based on tax filings, Edwards himself has been the main beneficiary of the center’s fund raising.
There have been other high profile incidents – such as the $400 haircut, which Edwards joked about on The Tonight Show earlier this week, and the nearly $500,000 he received to advise the hedge fund Fortress.
But Edwards supporter John Russell said those stories have been mishandled by the media (roll tape#3 o.q.”by the corporate media”)
That’s John Edwards supporter, former Democratic Congressional candidate John Edwards. Edwards will be in Tampa this Friday night for a campaign appearance and fundraiser at 7PM at Lowry Park Zoo.comments powered by Disqus
