WMNF Drive-Time News Tuesday | Listen to this entire show:

It was just a year ago that Gus Bilirakis moved up from the state Legislature to Congress by defeating Democrat Phyllis Busansky in the race to succeed his father in Florida’s Ninth Congressional District.

Two Democrats have officially filed to run against Bilirakis in 2008.

One is Bill Mitchell. The other is Michael Van Hoek, a relative political newcomer who has been active in the Hillsborough Democratic Executive Committee in recent years.

WMNF asked Van Hoek, if he becomes the Democratic nominee, does he figure on knocking out the Bilirakis, who’se family has maintained the seat, which represents North Pinellas, western Pasco and some parts of Hillsborough for more than two decades.
