Radioactivity interviews the author of a new book about the 500 year history of Florida.

Most history books tell us that Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon discovered Florida for the Europeans in April 1513—more than 500 years ago. At least 900,000 native people were already living in Florida—and after a few years of interaction with the Spanish- most of the population died.

The controversial new book about the last 500 years of Florida history is written by author T.D. Allman. It’s called FINDING FLORIDA: The True History of the Sunshine State. TD is a Harvard grad, has written several other books and has reported from more than 90 countries. Finding Florida, was a finalist for this year's National Book Award. Kirkus named it one of the best books of the past twelve months in two categories: nonfiction and American history. Rob speaks with T.D. on today's show.
