WMNF Drive-Time News Tuesday | Listen to this entire show:

Granted an unprecedented level of access to the inner workings of a contemporary hospital, bestselling journalist Julie Salamon has written Hospital, a book about a year in the life of Miamondes Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Salamon is perhaps best known for her book, The Devil’s Candy, which examined the making of the film, The Bonfire of the Vanities.

In Hospital, Salamon looks at this facility, which is located in a community where 67 languages are spoken. She captures the emotion of a medical drama in the financial realities of operating a huge, overburdened private institution. In the first of a two-part interview, WMNF began by asking Soloman what, other than more money and more personnel, does she think modern hospitals need?

We’ll hear more from her in the second part of this interview later in the week.
