Critic on 'The Triumph of Culture over Politics'

WMNF Drive-Time News Tuesday | Listen to this entire show:

Lee Siegel is a cultural critic who wrote an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal over the weekend. In “The Triumph of Culture Over Politics,” Siegel writes that liberals always think there’s something broken in politics, while conservatives always think there’s something wrong with the culture. And because of that, he says, Sarah Palin and the Republicans have the edge in November.

WMNF spoke with Siegel today from his home in New York City, and began by asking if he agreed with the Washington Post’s E.J. Dionne, who writes that the financial crisis should take the culture wars off the front pages.

In the second part of this interview to air later, Siegel says the mainstream media’s failure to discuss the issue of race may be problematic for Barack Obama in November.
