Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Wednesday) | Listen to this entire show:

Good afternoon,

Welcome to WMNF's Radioactivity program. I'm Rob Lorei. On today’s show: a debate about the proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage. But first some listener comments about yesterday’s interview with Ralph Nader who is a candidate for president. Many of the comments were about a listener’s suggestion that people who receive a government check be barred from voting.

On the November ballot there’s only one proposed amendment to the Florida constitution proposed by the citizens. It’s the proposal to define marriage in the Florida constitution. The amendment, sponsored by Florida4marriage.org, defines marriage as the legal union of only one man and one woman.

Our guests are:

Terry Kemple is president of the community issues council and he is a backer of Amendment 2. http://www.yes2marriage.org; cic@integrity.com; (813) 653-4822)

Nadine Smith of Equality Florida and Leddy Hammock, minister at Unity Church of Clearwater. Both are opponents of Amendment 2.

Amendment 2 - Hate Laws

The amendment is nothing more than promoting hate against an identifiable group. We learned the world was round We freed the slaves We allowed women to vote We are finally starting to accept that homosexuals actually exist (If you want to talk about traditions that have been around for thousands of years....) Same sex marriage is coming like it or not. It affects no one. Society is supposed to be about people and the government is supposed to be about people. Homosexuals, gay couples, straight couples, whatever are all people and deserve protections under the government as long as they do not bring harm to others. Whatever floats your boat. I used to be homophobic. Over the years I have learned that MANY of my friends are gay. I could care less anymore, but it disturbs me to see this sort of hatred being perpetrated by the religious right-wing.
