Youssef Megahed is about to be released from a Miami-area immigration detention facility.

A Miami immigration judge has signed an order to release the former University of South Florida student, who was acquitted of explosives charges earlier this year.

That's because of an agreement today between immigration officials and Megahed's attorney.

Earlier today, immigration judge Kenneth Hurewitz threw out Megahed's deportation case.

WMNF spoke this afternoon with Youssef’s immigration attorney, Charles Kuck. “…There’s now no bar to him being naturalized.”

Youssef Megahed’s father, Samir Megahed, says his whole family is excited. “I am proud to be an American citizen.”
