David Swanson on the Imperial Presidency
On the first part of today’s program we’ll hear from author David Swanson, who’s written a new book called Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency and Forming a More Perfect Union (Seven Stories Press; September 15, 2009). Swanson is a former communications director for Dennis Kucinich’s 2004 presidential campaign and a founder of After Downing Street, a group that charged the Bush administration was not honest with the American public regarding the reasons for invading Iraq. In his new book he writes about how the Bush/Cheney administration fundamentally altered the way our government works, inflated the powers of the executive, and deteriorated the Constitution and Bill of Rights. I asked him about what he meant by “Imperial Presidency”.
DAVID SWANSON is co-founder of http://AfterDowningStreet.org, creator of http://ProsecuteBushCheney.org, the Washington Director of Democrats.com, and a board member of Progressive Democrats for America. He served as press secretary for Dennis Kucinich’s 2004 presidential campaign and has been a leading voice for the prosecution of Bush and Cheney for war crimes.comments powered by Disqus
