James Howard Kunstler Interview
Tomorrow, the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on a referendum that proposes a one-cent sales tax for rail and other transit projects. It would be up for a vote this November.
Last Sunday, The St. Petersburg Times ran an op-ed penned by Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio calling on the county to invest in a comprehensive modern mass transit system that would create jobs, shape growth, and improve the quality of life in the Tampa Bay area.
WMNF's Kelly Benjamin spoke with James Howard Kunstler, leading proponent of the "New Urbanism" movement and author of The Geography of Nowhere, a history of American suburbia and urban development. WMNF asked Kunstler his opinion on the prospects of light rail fitting into West Central Florida's suburbanized landscape.
The hearing on the transit tax referendum tax place tomorrow at six p.m. at All Peopleâs Life Center at 6105 East Sligh Avenue in Tampa.comments powered by Disqus
