Call in show: Boston Marathon bombing has one dead suspect, one living and the Senate kills gun measure04/19/13 Janelle Irwin
Last Call Friday | Listen to this entire show:
Two men of Chechnya decent were identified by the FBI. One of those men has reportedly been killed; the other is still at large. The dead suspect was said to have been wearing a bomb. The two men – or boys depending on how old you are – I’m kind of thinking boys is the better description- they are accused of all sorts of shenanigans including knocking over a 7-11, hijacking a car and temporarily kidnapping the owner, and killing an MIT police officer. Media outlets have reported that based on interviews with acquaintances and information on social media sites, both suspects were Muslim.
That almost overshadowed a controversial vote in Washington this week. The Senate shot down the Manchin-Toomey legislation that would have expanded background checks to include gun shows and online sales. It was touted as having bi-partisan support and Democrats say they compromised a lot to make it palatable to second amendment buffs. Despite all of that, the Senate failed to get the 60 votes needed to pass.
A shooting survivor yelled “Shame on You†from the Senate gallery following the vote.
President Obama had called the measure “common sense†legislation and vows that there are still ways to boost gun safety.
