Edna Adan, from Somaliland, who is featured as one of the women who is making a difference in HALF THE SKY: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide discusses her background. Edna was born under the British Protectorate and was the first girl/woman to get an education in Somaliland even though there were no schools for girls. She listened in the back of the class and took the tests in a separate room and did so well she was given a scholarship to study in Britain.After many years with WHO, she returned to Somaliland and used all her assets to build a women's hospital which treats all who come, not only women.For more information go to PBS Independent Lens and Half the Sky.
