Florida’s CFO Jeff Atwater says he would Governor Rick Scott in a Republican primary. Before speaking at a Suncoast Tiger Bay luncheon in St. Pete Thursday, Atwater said Scott has done a good job.

“We’ve got a governor and I’m supporting our governor and I don’t know anybody that’s talking about [running in a primary against] the governor. I know I’m asked that question, I’m sure the Attorney General is asked that question, I’m sure the Ag Commissioner is asked that question – as far as I know, everyone of us has said the same thing, that we’ve got a governor, he’s done many good things and we’re all in this together for the next cycle.”

We asked Atwater whether he would support Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam over Scott if Putnam were to announce his candidacy.

Atwater, who is also a Republican, has made it a priority to cut down on government waste and spending – similar goals as were laid out by Scott during his 2010 campaign.
