We started today’s Sustainable Living Program with Susan Kelly, the publicity chair for this year’s Florida Small Farms & Alternative Enterprises Conference July 27 to July 29th in Kissimmee. Also joining us was one of the Innovative Farms Award winners for this year, Pam Sindlinger. She and her husband Hank are owners of Gateway Organic Farm a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in Pinellas County. Gateway is one of the two organic farms in our area where you can become members and get weekly produce during their growing season. This year’s farm conference sounds like a great event, with workshops, field trips, demonstrations, terrific sessions and of course some of the best local food cooked by some of the greatest chefs in Florida. The keynote speaker for this year’s conference, Michael Shuman, joined the second half of the show. Michael is the author of several books about small economies, businesses, going Local, and beating the global markets. He heads up several groups, including Small Mart, and BALLE that provide information for local economies and business. His main message was that it always makes more sense to buy and invest locally.
