“People watching on steroids” could have been the motto of the 13th annual Tampa Bay ComicCon held at the Tampa Convention Center last weekend. The three day event pre-sold more than 20,000 tickets. A report from Florida’s largest Comic convention.

A new private toll road proposal in Pasco County could spark debate among environmentalists. They’re worried the long stretch of highway could lead to natural environments giving way to new development.

Citizens Property Insurance rate hearing fails to attract many policyholders listen

Citizens Property Insurance is proposing a 7.5% overall rate increase for policyholders in Florida, including increases for sinkhole coverage. The state-backed insurance company appeared before the Office of Insurance Regulation Tuesday night in Tampa to plead its case. Barry Gilway, the head of Citizens, said the agency is working hard to keep rates affordable.

U.S. Army Private Bradley Manning has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for releases hundreds of thousands of classified military documents. During a press conference after the sentencing hearing Wednesday, Manning’s defense attorney, David Coombs said he and other supporters are asking President Obama to grant a pardon, but if that doesn’t work, there are still other ways to get Manning out before he’s eligible for parole.

Advocates of breastfeeding say it improves the health of infants and even educational outcomes later in childhood.

The Florida Department of Health in Manatee County is hosting a celebration of World Breastfeeding Month Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the Bradenton Riverwalk. There will be breastfeeding counselors, education materials and nutrition educators.
