Tampa City Council unanimously approved the purchase of more than 6 million dollars in radio communication equipment. The items are being purchased for use during the Republican National Convention this August and then will be passed on to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for their use afterward. This is Council member Mary Mulhern.

“That was starting to become one of my big questions is that we’re getting so much using and accepting so much federal tax money for this two week convention. So, knowing that at least these will be used on a regular basis in the county is reassuring.”

Tampa officials also approved $2 million worth of surveillance equipment earlier this month. The expenditures are part of a $50 million grant awarded to the city for RNC security.
