On today's Last Call we deviated a little bit from our normal focus on politics to explore the growing movement of community gardening. A quick search turned up several gardens on both sides of the bay - in Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, Bartlett Park in St. Pete and in Dunedin.

I’ve been watching (with much anticipation) a new garden being constructed in Riverhills Park which borders the Hillsborough River in the city of Temple Terrace. I wandered over last weekend during their fence building party with all kinds of questions as to what it takes to set up a community garden.

Joining us in the studio to answer some of those questions were Temple Terrace Community Garden President, Elizabeth Leib and Secretary, Travis Malloy. Elizabeth is a Tampa native, living in Temple Terrace for the past 18 years with her son Jeremy and her husband, playwright and Creative Loafing theatre critic, Mark Leib. Travis Malloy is a 12 year resident of Temple Terrace resident and an avid gardener.
