Creedence Clearwater Revival was the biggest band in America between 1968 and 1972. They released seven albums and a string of double-sided hit singles, while in 1969 and 1970, they even outsold The Beatles!

Now you can relive the music at WMNF’s Tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty.
12 Tampa Bay bands will perform 3-4 songs each: over 35 songs by Creedence Clearwater Revival and lead guitarist/singer John Fogerty!

“[CCR is] now creating the most vivid American rock. ‘Fortunate Son,’ which rages against class-based draft inequality with rare, beat-driven fury: Even Dylan couldn’t pen a protest song that makes you wanna dance.” – Rolling Stone Magazine

“Mr. Fogerty flaunted the variety of his lead guitar work, from country flatpicking to wailing psychedelic blues. But every guitar riff was still carved in steel and burnished with moonshine, and Mr. Fogerty’s voice was still a visionary backwoods howl.” – New York Times

“They weren’t the hippest band in the world, they were the best.” – Bruce Springsteen

Fusing rockabilly, Louisiana swamp-pop, blues, R&B, and country, Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty laid the groundwork for what we today call Americana. This is the music that influenced bands today such as the Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Tom Morello, Bob Seger, and My Morning Jacket, all of whom performed with Fogerty on his album, “Wrote a Song for Everyone.”

His protest songs about Vietnam, class, and Nixon became the defining anthems of the anti-war movement of the 1960s and 70 right up to protests today.
