John Esposito is the founding director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, where he is a professor of religion, international affairs and Islamic studies.
Esposito was in Tampa on Saturday to address a banquet for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). WMNF spoke with Esposito and began by asking about his most recent book.

Budget cuts are affecting every aspect of state government, including state prisons.
Earlier this year, state legislation ordered the Department of Corrections to reduce its $83.9 million food service budget by more than $9 million.
To do that, the Legislature wanted the vendors employed by the state, Aramark and Trinity Food Services, to cut back on calories served and to reduce their staff.

Last week, the Tampa City Council rejected a proposed 25-year franchise agreement with Tampa Electric Co. Several council members said TECO’s reluctance to include the use of alternative fuels in its portfolio was among the factors in their rejecting the proposed pact.
