Ferguson solidarity rally planned for Friday in Tampa

**update: The rally is in Gaslight Square***

There have been several small protests around the Tampa Bay area since a grand jury in Missouri announced it would not indict a Ferguson police officer in the death of Michael Brown; now, several groups are coming together for one major rally in downtown Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Wednesday morning WMNF interviewed Alekos Zambrano with Raices en Tampa, one of the groups organizing the protest.

Note, this interview happened before Wednesday afternoon’s grand jury decision not to indict the New York City police officer who choked Eric Garner, killing him.

Saturday at Williams Park in downtown St. Petersburg will be what organizers are calling a “March Against Police Brutality and The Corrupt System That Lets Them Walk.” It is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.

On Sunday St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway will be part of a panel discussion hosted by the St. Petersburg International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement with the theme “Could Ferguson Happen Here? Should Ferguson Happen Here?” It begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Uhuru House, 1245 18th Avenue South.
