Friday is the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion throughout the country; after thunderstorms in the morning a half-dozen people waved pro-choice signs on a busy street corner in downtown St. Petersburg.

Linda Darin, vice president of Pinellas NOW, the National Organization for Women, says plans to further regulate abortion clinics would limit access to abortion clinics, especially for poor women.

Before the Roe decision Darin was living in Detroit but had to go to New York to get an abortion.

This week a bill that would make abortion clinics meet strict new licensing requirements passed through committee in the Florida Legislature. House Bill 233 requires clinics to meet the same standards as hospitals and ambulatory surgery clinics.

Amy Weintraub recently moved to Florida.
