During some speeches at the Republican convention unions have been a punching bag. In contrast, yesterday labor rights groups in Tampa used theater to demonstrate what the workforce might look like if Mitt Romney is elected as president. Protesters signed what they call America’s Second Bill of Rights.

The women’s peace group CODEPINK sent a press release Wednesday afternoon saying two of their members interrupted the speech of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Tampa.

They say retired Colonel Ann Wright stood up and criticized Rice about the war on Iraq and later Rae Abileah interrupted Rice to say the “blood of Iraqi children is on your hands!” Abileah will be one of my guests this afternoon on Last Call.

The Occupy Tampa encampment has come under fire by some community leaders in West Tampa who think it’s an eye sore. Today, the group is cleaning it up along with some other areas in the neighborhood. President of Americans for Tax Reform, Grover Norquist wants to lower the corporate tax rate by 10%. During a breakfast at the Grand Hyatt overlooking The Courtney Campbell Causeway in Tampa this morning he said a 25% maximum corporate tax rate would bring more jobs to U.S. cities.

On Sunday morning, downtown’s Gaslight Park was alive with protesters.

That’s where a march of the 99% began.

But there was also an ice sculpture with the words “Middle Class” that melted through the afternoon.

Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese are the two artists who created the melting ice sculpture.

Crist switched to an independent after a long political career as a Republican.

Despite a tropical storm warning, school closures, and the postponed Republican convention activities in Tampa, the second major protest of Monday kicked off in the afternoon in the city’s downtown financial district.
